What is Female Sexual Health?

Our female sexual health treatment uses cutting-edge techniques and the body’s natural regenerative properties to help rejuvenate your intimate areas. Vaginal dryness, urinary incontinence, and sexual difficulties can be caused by several factors, such as stress, various health conditions, hormonal fluctuations, and more. Female sexual dysfunction is also highly prevalent, affecting 30% to 50% of women globally. (1) Our female sexual health treatments offer a non-surgical option for anyone interested in intimate rejuvenation, whether it is to address discomfort or enhance their desire.

About Platelet-Rich Plasma

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is naturally found in each patient’s blood and is known for its healing and anti-inflammatory properties. PRP can be used to treat a wide variety of concerns, ranging from ligament injuries to spine disorders, and can even be used for hair restoration. PRP contains more than 300 growth factors and cytokines, all of which contribute to enhanced wound healing and tissue remodeling. (2)

  • Non-Surgical Treatment: Our female sexual health treatments provide a minimally invasive alternative to surgical intervention, requiring no downtime or recovery.
  • Improved Sexual Pleasure: Many women report increased sensitivity and better overall experiences during sexual activity.
  • Increased Comfort: Patients suffering from vaginal dryness often find significant relief after undergoing PRP injections.
  • Hormone Balance Support: By improving blood flow, PRP may assist in stabilizing hormonal imbalances affecting sexual health. (3)
  • Enhanced Orgasms: With improved nerve sensitivity and rejuvenation, many women achieve heightened levels of satisfaction.
  • Versatile Applications: PRP can address multiple aspects of women’s intimate health, creating a comprehensive approach to treatment.
  • Long-Lasting Results: While individual results vary, many women experience sustained improvements over time after PRP therapy.

Who Makes a Suitable Candidate?

Candidates for our female sexual health treatment typically consist of women seeking to alleviate vaginal dryness, sexual dysfunction, as well as a low libido. Women experiencing urinary incontinence or a weakened pelvic floor may also make suitable candidates. Finally, patients interested in a non-surgical and natural solution to their conditions should consider the PRP shot.

All candidates interested in undergoing our female sexual health treatment should be in good overall health and free from any underlying medical conditions that may impair healing. Individuals should also be nonsmokers or willing to abstain from nicotine use for several weeks in advance until they have fully recovered. Dr. Michaels will help you determine if you are eligible for PRP injections during your personal consultation.

Personal Consultation

One of the first steps to improving your sexual health and daily comfort is attending a personal consultation at either our Rockville or Fairfax office. During this consultation, Dr. Michaels will meet with you to converse about your medical history, concerns, and desired results. He may also evaluate your anatomy. Using this information, he will determine your candidacy for our PRP injections and establish your tailored treatment plan. You are encouraged to ask any questions they may have about their treatment or about female sexual health in general, as this consultation is designed to be informative and collaborative.

Preparation

Dr. Michaels will prepare a set of personalized instructions to help you prepare for your appointment. You may be asked to temporarily discontinue using certain medications or herbal supplements that contain blood-thinning properties. Drinking alcohol should be avoided several days before the appointment, and nicotine use should be ceased several weeks in advance. Please ensure you follow each direction given to you by Dr. Michaels for the best possible results.

Procedure

On the day of your appointment, we recommend arriving in loose and comfortable clothing. You will be taken to a private room where a topical numbing cream will be applied. As it takes effect, Dr. Michaels will draw a sample of blood from your arm, similarly to a regular doctor’s appointment. This sample of blood is then processed through a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the other cellular components. The concentrated solution of platelets is then carefully injected into various areas of the vagina to improve your natural lubrication, sensitivity, sexual function and overall daily comfort. This procedure is fairly quick compared to many other treatments, lasting approximately 30-60 minutes.

Recovery & Results

Following your appointment, you will be free to return to your daily routines, as our PRP injections are nonsurgical. However, you will need to avoid physical exercise and sexual activities for 24-48 hours, or as directed by Dr. Michaels. You may experience slight redness or mild swelling near the injection sites, but these effects are temporary and will subside on their own. Dr. Michaels will provide you with further recovery instructions during your consultation, once your tailored treatment plan has been established.

You may start to notice improvements after several days, but the full effects of your treatment can take several weeks to manifest. You will be able to notice an improvement in your natural lubrication, addressing any concerns regarding vaginal dryness. Enhanced sensitivity and better orgasms can be experienced, as well as more satisfying and comfortable sexual experiences in general. A reduction in urinary incontinence can also be experienced. The effects of each patient’s PRP injections are long-lasting, but some patients may benefit from multiple treatment sessions to achieve their desired results.
